Shelf Equine Hospital Services

Our Equine Hospital at Shelf, Halifax, West Yorkshire, provides comprehensive services for routine appointments and emergency cases. Established at the site in 1995, the Hospital has a well-established history of providing services to our own clients and those of referring veterinary surgeons, including lameness investigation, surgery, in-patient intensive care.

Emergency Service

The Hospital provides an emergency service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year- for our own clients and those referred by neighbouring veterinary surgeons. This includes admissions for emergency surgery and medical case management.

Lameness Investigation

Hird & Partners has a strong foundation in lameness investigation and treatment.

The modern facilities at Shelf Equine Hospital allow accurate assessment and provision of full range of treatment options.

Pre-Purchase Examinations

Hird & Partners have a team of vets with considerable experience performing pre-purchase examinations for buyers across a range of disciplines. We offer 5-stage and 2-stage vettings (and additional services) to suit the requirements of each buyer.

Surgery & Anaesthesia

Hird & Partners have an experienced surgical team with purpose-built facilities at our Shelf Equine Hospital. We offer a complete elective and emergency surgery service for our own clients and those referred by neighbouring veterinary practices.

Medical Cases

The hospital has an extensive range of equipment and facilities for the investigation and treatment of medical conditions. This includes routine appointments and emergency cases.

Diagnostic Imaging

Shelf Equine Hospital has a range of imaging options available including radiography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT).

Hospitalisation & In-Patients

Our Shelf Equine Hospital has 35 in-patient stables and additional stabling for day-patients and isolation cases. Our stables are equipped to provide intensive care such as fluid therapy or heat lamps as required.

Sarcoids, melanomas and other tumours

We have a range of services for the surgical and medical treatment of tumours, including sarcoids and melanomas.

MRI

Our Shelf Equine Hospital has a standing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit which is frequently used during lameness investigations. Images are interpreted by a member of our in-house team.

Dentistry

We perform a range of routine and advanced dental procedures at the Hospital. This includes oral endoscopy, routine & surgical tooth extraction, and treatment of sinus disease.

Reproductive Services

Our team provide an experienced reproductive services including pregnancy diagnosis, artificial insemination, infertility investigation, foal assessments and emergency assistance with difficult foalings.

Gastroscopy & Endoscopy

The hospital is equipped with a range of flexible endoscopes including (a gastroscope, respiratory scopes and an overground scope). We run regular gastroscopy clinic days.

Routine Health Services

We offer a full range of routine health services such as vaccinations, passports & microchipping, geriatric care, worming advice and euthanasia.
