The King Street practice has a separate imaging suite with private dark rooms for radiography, as well as a state-of-the-art ultrasound scanner. With their wireless ultrasound scanner, the Walsden surgery is also able to offer this service.
This type of imaging method is useful for pregnancy diagnosis, echocardiography (ultrasound scanning the heart), and imaging soft tissue structures (such as abdominal organs – liver, kidney, spleen).
Vaccines are an important way of keeping our pets free from serious diseases. We are able to offer primary vaccines courses for puppies and kittens, as well as booster vaccinations for adult dogs, cats and rabbits.

Surgery is carried out by our team of experienced Veterinary Surgeons, assisted by our nursing team. Our King Street surgery has two large, well-equipped operating suites, with a wide range of surgical instruments. Our Veterinary Surgeons have a wealth of experience, and are able to carry out a range of complex procedures, ranging from routine speying and castration to more complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries.
Patients undergoing anaesthesia receive a comprehensive pre-anaesthetic check in order to make the procedure as safe as possible. This includes a full body examination to assess their health prior to the procedure. We also offer pre-anaesthetic blood testing. This allows us to further assess patients’ health and internal organs and help to minimise the risk which is associated with any anaesthetic and make the procedure as safe as possible. At Hird and Partners, we use a modern range of anaesthetic drugs and monitoring equipement and our team of Veterinary Surgeons and nurses are kept well informed by attending CPD courses.
We offer an active preventative medicine programme covering vaccinations, flea, tick and worm treatment and micro-chipping. These services are available at all of our surgeries. In order to spread the cost of this routine care, we have created a Pet Health Club. If you wish for more details then please enquire with your local surgery.
Our King Street surgery is able to provide radiography with their modern digital x-ray machine. Most x-ray procedures require a degree of sedation or full general anaesthesia in order to obtain images of diagnostic quality.
Owing to the nature of x-ray images, a number of views are often required to reach a diagnosis.
With an array of modern lab equipment we are able to offer a wide range of in-house diagnostic tests at both our King Street and Walsden surgeries including blood, urine and faecal analysis.
For more specialised tests, samples may be sent to an external laboratory.
