Ultrasound

The King Street practice has a separate imaging suite with private dark rooms for radiography, as well as a state-of-the-art ultrasound scanner, with all our Veterinary Surgeons having received training on how to use this machine to its best capabilities.

This type of imaging method is useful for pregnancy diagnosis, echocardiography (ultrasound scanning the heart), and imaging soft tissue structures (such as abdominal organs – liver, kidney, spleen). Ultrasound can also be useful for some orthopaedic complaints.

Ultrasound is available at the King Street Practice

Our Services

Hospitalisation

We have a full range of hospitalsation facilities. Kennels are a range of shapes and sizes, with seperate ares for dogs and cats, ensuring your pet has as comfortable a stay as possible.

In patients are comprehensively monitored day and night by our highly experienced team of Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses. We can also care for high-dependency pets, with facilities such as the King Street cat/intensive care unit, incubator, intravenous fluid pumps and heat pads.

Combined with this, we have a separate isolation ward, for patients that may pose an infection risk, or may be immunocompromised.

Clients are welcome to visit hospitalized patients during their stay with us by prior appointment on 01422 354999.

Radiography

The practice has a modern x-ray machine and automatic processor, used for imaging skeletal problems and some soft tissue structures. Most x-ray procedures require a degree of sedation or full general anaesthesia.

Owing to the nature of x-ray images, a number of views are often required to reach a diagnosis. X-rays are extremely useful when pets have been involved in accidents in order to rule out damage to internal organs and fractures.

Surgery is carried out by our team of experienced Veterinary Surgeons, assisted by our nursing team. We havetwo large, well-equipped operating suites, with a wide range of surgical instruments. Our Veterinary Surgeons have a wealth of experience, and are able to carry out a range of complex procedures, ranging from routine speying and castration to more complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries.

We have a separate recovery area from the hospital ward to provide a quieter area for patients to recover from anaestesia and to be monitored closely. With two specially designed cages to provide oxegen if needed.

Patients undergoing anaesthesia receive a comprehensive pre-anaesthetic check in order to make the procedure as safe as possible. This includes a full body examination to assess their health prior to the procedure. We also offer pre-anaesthetic blood testing. This allows us to further assess patients’ health and internal organs and help to minimise the risk which is associated with any anaesthetic and make the procedure as safe as possible. At Hird and Partners, we use a modern range of anaesthetic drugs and our team of Veterinary Surgeons and nurses are kept well informed by attending CPD courses.

At our main practice in King Street we have a separate waiting area for dogs and cats to ensure your wait is as comfortable as possible. Reception staff are ready to greet you should you have any particular requirements feel free to ring prior to your appointment.

We have consultation rooms to provide a quality service to our clients. This will hopefuly mean we can now provide the appointment time to suit you and also minimise your visit to us. We have a separate bereavement room to allow you to have the time you need with your pet at that truly difficult time.

Nurse Clinics

We run an active programme of nurse clinics, across all of our surgeries. Clinics include weight management, puppy parties, senior checks, 6 month-old checks and flea and worm checks. Clinics are organised by our Veterinary Nurses, who have a wide range of experience and expertise.

We have a large pharmacy fully stocked for all your small animal medicine requirements. Prior to despiensing any medication we do require to see your pet and in most cases require a weight which can be measured at the practice.

Please enquire at reception for more details.

Dentistry

We have a separate dentistry suite to keep dental procedures separate from "clean" surgical operations. Our SA team provide a range of dental services including routine scale and polish to tooth extractions.

Preventative Medicine

We offer an active preventative medicine programme covering vaccination, worm and flea treatment and micro-chipping. These services are available at our main King Street surgery.

We offer free flea and worm nurse clinics – please ask at reception for more information.

Endoscope

Endoscopy is a useful imaging tool to investigate gastro-intestinal complaints. This requires general anaesthesia.

The scope is introduced via the patient’s mouth, in order to visualize the back of a patient’s mouth, oesophagus and stomach. At Hird and Partners, we have a modern endoscope for this purpose.
