Eddie Burt -

Eddie graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1985, and joined Hird and Partners in November of the same year, and subsequently became a partner in the practice. Eddie has a wealth of clinical expertise in all areas of small animal medicine and surgery. Recently, Eddie has attended CPD courses on feline medicine and BSAVA congress in Birmingham. Away from work, Eddie has a busy family life, spending much of his time with his children as well as finding time to enjoy walking.

Michael Lightwood - BVSc MRCVS BSAVA PG Cert SAM

After graduating from the University of Bristol in 2007, Michael joined Hird and Partners as an associate small animal Veterinary Surgeon. His professional interests include canine and feline emergency medicine and diagnostic imaging. He has completed an intensive course in ultrasonography and carries out most of the scanning in the small animal practice. Michael has recently completed his BSAVA Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Medicine. Michael’s interests include walking his Border Terrier, Roger, and spending time with friends.

Kirsty Baird - BVMS. MRCVS (Clinical Director)

Kirsty graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1991. After spending time working in mixed general practice, and a period working in the Caribbean, Kirsty made the move to Hird and Partners in February 2006 as a small animal practitioner. Kirsty is interested in all areas of general practice, and has recently attended the North American Veterinary Congress. Outside work, Kirsty enjoys mountain biking, travelling, and walking her dogs, Ruby and Florence. Kirsty is currently undertaking her GP certificate in Small Animal Medicine and has a keen interest in Veterinary Acupuncture.

Martin Hamilton -

After graduating from Edinburgh University in 2016, Martin joined Hird and Partners to begin his veterinary career as an associate small animal veterinary surgeon. Professionally, he is interested in small animal anaesthesia, particularly pain management, as well as nutritional management and surgery. In his spare time Martin enjoys keeping fit by going to the local gym, following rugby union as well as sampling the many ales that Yorkshire has to offer!

Helen Clayton-Dugdale -

After graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a BSc. in Animal Behaviour and Welfare in 2006, Helen became a Nursing Assistant in 2007, previously having worked as a receptionist at our old Blackwall centre. Professionally, Helen enjoys canine and feline behavioural medicine. After completing her training with Hird and Partners – Helen qualified as a registered Veterinary Nurse in 2010. Helen has recently attended CPD covering feline aggression, blood transfusions and feline hyperthyroidism. In her spare time Helen enjoys socialising with friends, travelling and films.

Claire joined Hird and Partners in August 2013 as a receptionist at our Walsden surgery. When a vacancy on our small animal nursing team arose, Claire applied and now is based as a nursing assistant at our Blackwall surgery.Claire has completed her Animal Management NVQ Level 2 at Calderdale College. Claire enjoys walking her dogs and spending time with her horse.

Rachael Warne - Bsc Hons RVN (Deputy Head Nurse)

Rachael joined Hird and Partners in September 2006 as a work placement whilst she completed her  veterinary nursing degree at university. Rachael enjoys all aspects of her job but  particularly enjoys nursing inpatients back to health after surgery and illness. Rachael has completed  CPD in various subjects but enjoys topics relating to  rehabilitation and hydrotherapy and physiotherapy. Outside of work Rachael enjoys meals out with family and friends and is a big film fan so loves going to the cinema. Rachael has a little cat called Theo who she rescued after he had been hit by a car when he was only 10 weeks old. He recovered brilliantly thanks to the Hird and Partners team and is now very happy with a new life with Rachael.

Maree joined Hird and Partners in 2004, whilst studying towards her BSc. in veterinary nursing at Hartpury College. Maree attained her BSc. with Honours in 2005. Maree has particular interests in small animal dentistry and surgical nursing. Recently, Maree has attended numerous CPD courses including Veterinary Anaesthesia, a VN assessor workshop and most recently BSAVA congress. Away from work, Maree enjoys cooking and taking care of her horse, dogs and chickens on her small holding.

Before starting at Hird And Partners in August 2014 Rebecca studied Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Government & Politics A levels. Rebecca worked at a local surgery every Saturday for 2 years and through this realised she wished to pursue a career in veterinary nursing. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with my family and friends and walking her two dogs.

Emma joined Hird and Partners in April 2014 as a nursing assistant.  She has worked with animals for 15 years and completed her SQP certificate in February 2014.  In her spare time Emma enjoys walking her dog 'Chunk', playing her guitar, singing and gardening.

Laura Wheelwright - Nursing Assistant / Receptionist

After completing her HND in animal management in 2014, Laura started working at Hird and Partners in Halifax as a nursing assistant. The job requires her to care for our hospitalised patients as well as ensuring our day patients have a pleasant stay. Currently Laura works at the Ripponden branch as the animal care assistant whilst also covering reception duties. Ripponden allows her to form a close relationship with our clients allowing give personalised care to their pets. In her spare time I enjoy walking my lurcher, Bryn, and horse riding.

Grace Bamford

Grace joined Hird & Partners in 2014 as a nursing assistant, on completion of her ANA certificate in 2015. She is now enrolled as a student veterinary nurse and attends Myerscough College school of vet nursing and will have qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2018. She spends her spare time walking her dog Daisy, looking after her cat Luna and horse riding.

David started working for Hird and Partners in August 2008 as a vetinary nursing assistant, moving to the Ripponden branch a year later.  Before moving to Hird and Partners David worked for an animal charity for nine years.  He finds working with both animals and customers very rewarding.  His interests include canine behaviour and outside work he enjoys walking and working out. David has now moved to our Walsden Surgery and was nominated for an award as “Vet Support Staff of the Year 2013”, with Petplan.

Denise joined Hird and Partners in 1996 working within our small animal reception. Professionally, Denise enjoys meeting new clients as well as caring for existing ones. When not at work, Denise has a keen interest in wildlife and nature. Denise also enjoys walking and watching rugby union and speedway.

Janet Allan - RVN

Janet joined the practice in 1981 as a veterinary nurse. Nowadays, Janet is involved in the administrative side of the practice, chiefly with the processing of small animal insurance claims. In her free time she enjoys being with her family, walking and reading.

Lisa has worked for Hird and Partners since 2002 as one of our dedicated team of small animal receptionists. Enjoying all aspects of her job, Lisa cites client communication as the best part of her role. Away from work, Lisa helps run her family farm and spends a large amount of time with her donkeys. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys reading, walking and listening to music. Lisa also has a keen interest in motorcycle sports, especially trials as this is something her son is involved with.

Beth joined Hird and Partners in June 2014 having previously worked at Design & Display Ltd, managing personnel and accounts. Beth enjoys spending time with family and friends, photography, long walks and touring in camper van with husband and 2 dogs, Badger and Doug.

Margaret joined the practice in September 2009 as receptionist, based at our Ripponden branch, having previously worked with pre-school children with special needs.  She enjoys meeting people and the friendly nature of being at the branch. In her spare time she enjoys swimming and exercising.

Valerie joined Hird and Partners in October 2006 when we originally opened our new West Vale branch. Valerie was responsible for the day to day organisation of the branch but has recently moved to our reception at our King Street surgery. Valerie enjoys being at King Street as she is kept very busy. She enjoys meeting different people and their pets and the fact that no two days are the same. In her spare time Valerie enjoys eating out reading and travelling.

Linda joined the practice in October 2011 as part of our small animal reception team. Linda has completed her first aid at work course and human bereavement counselling qualification. Prior to joining the practice Linda spent 30 years as a jeweller and had her own business for several years. Linda has also spent some time volunteering for the RSPCA and was nominated for an award as “Vet Support Staff of the Year 2013”, with Petplan.

Peter Lobb

Peter is the afternoon/evening receptionist at Walsden and joined Hird and Partners at the end of 2011 in anticipation of the Walsden branch opening. He spent 34 years as a Police Officer with West Yorkshire Police before retiring to look after the family smallholding in the Todmorden area. After two years of not getting much response from the horses, donkeys, sheep and chickens decided he needed to speak with people again and enjoys the variety of cases that come through a busy branch surgery.
